G-MAIL is dead!

[Update: i was wrong. it seems that rumours of gmail's departure are misplaced. this may have been some exotic gmail server handling my mail today.]

it seems that the marketing gods at google have spoken. Gmail is no longer 'Gmail'

The logo in the top left now says 'Google Mail' instead.

I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere, about marketing and brand-identification and other stuff. But I just don't think it looks as nice as the gmail logo.

It depends which part of the world you're in. For example in the UK, there is already another company with the GMail trademark, so over there, it's purely googlemail.

I got my UK GMail account before all the hoohah about the GMail trademark in the UK so I got to have a @gmail.com account. Now when you get one in the UK it is @googlemail.com

You'd think that someone as big as Google would research tradenames. But then plenty of car companies and other manufacturers make the same mistakes. Cars with names that mean small penis etc. in Spanish - those sell well.
