What does 'yep' mean, exactly?
Q: What does 'yep' really mean?Does it mean "Yes, thank you for telling me, i understand?" Does it mean "I don't understand a single thing you just said, but I'm polite and you seem to like the sound of your own voice, so please keep going?" Or does it mean "I already knew that. You've just wasted your breath talking to me. Shut up in future, big nose." A: Yep

I think that you forgot the following though:
"I hear you talking. I'm not actually listening but I thought that I would fill the empty spaces in your monologue just to keep a flow going. Please do not construe this as meaning that I have agreed to wear a puffy pirate shirt in public."
Inflection is everything.

Ayuh... (pronounced i - yuh).
Something to do with too many folks from Canada cross-breeding with folks from Maine.

'Kate' on Thu, 29 Jan 2009 01:34:43 GMT, sez: When I hear "yep," I think the person saying it is an imbecile. Usually uneducated or undisciplined people say yep or more commonly "yep yep yep."
Usually it means they are not listening because their minds are going a million miles per hour contemplating garbage and so the yep is their placeholder in the conversation.
It's also a bit dismissive.
